Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Position Summary

KEA Technologies, Inc. is currently seeking a Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer. If you are a qualified applicant that is highly motivated, enthusiastic about innovative R&D design and are looking to become an integral member of a multi-disciplinary team including engineering professionals and subject-matter experts, KEA can provide an exciting opportunity. In this role, you will be responsible for product design, development, and hands-on support; writing specifications and requirements documents, and identifying resources required to ensure successful designs. You will bring your proficiency in SolidWorks software along with your strong ability and creativity to develop detailed models and drawings. You will have ownership and responsibility for overseeing aspects of prototype fabrication and low-rate production build providing technical support and monitoring schedule status. You will assume responsibility for results-based deliverables in direct support of the company’s exciting initiatives.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Contribute to system architecture development, identifying design and production methods for the rapid and efficient development of new design concepts.
  • Perform hardware design, prototyping, and support hardware manufacturing (small scale internal and contract).
  • Resolve all design and production issues necessary to bring products from ideation to production.
  • Develop, document, and execute design Verification and Validation test plans.
  • Conduct tests, analyze data, and prepare test reports.
  • Generate, verify, and approve drawings and design configuration management documentation.
  • Provide technical support to cross functional engineers on all aspects of the design, production, and deployment process.
  • Assemble, test, and troubleshoot prototype and small production runs of electro-mechanical devices and systems.
  • Fabricate assemblies, cables, and test fixtures, and assist in fully documenting their design and production.
  • Have a strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials, mechanics, fluids, thermodynamics and heat transfer.
  • Perform design, layout and modeling of electro-mechanical assemblies and electronics packaging (using SolidWorks).
  • Work from design concepts and customer requirements to engineer innovative products which meet functionality, cost and schedule goals.
  • Continuously improve the design process by ensuring best practices and tools are evaluated and used.
  • Implement Design for Manufacturability (DFM) practices.
  • Perform system level tolerance analysis.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) is a must.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering (from an accredited program, completed prior to start date) with 5-10 years of product design experience, preferably in an emerging technology company.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, team environment with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results.
  • Strong interpersonal & collaboration skills to work effectively with all levels of the organization including suppliers and/or external customers.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Possess excellent troubleshooting skills to efficiently identify and resolve design and production issues during all phases of product development.
  • Familiar with document controls, revision control and change process.
  • Able to read and understand schematic diagrams and component data sheets.
  • Must be committed to upholding the highest standards of quality of work and personal safety in the lab.
  • Experience with traditional manufacturing methods for metals and plastics.
  • Familiarity or knowledge in reverse engineering using 3D scanning equipment and CAD software to replicate complex surfaces is preferred.
  • Familiarity with 3D printing is preferred.
  • Candidate must be comfortable in conceptual as well as hands on design and integration
  • Familiarity with the auto industry is preferred but not required.

Senior Electrical Engineer

In this role, you will be responsible for product/project design, development, and hands-on support; writing specifications and requirements documents, and identifying resources required to ensure successful designs. You will bring your proficiency in analog design, mixed-signal electronics and electronics systems development, systems integration, and laboratory and operational testing. You will have ownership and responsibility for overseeing aspects of prototype fabrication and low-rate production build providing technical support and monitoring schedule status. You will assume responsibility for results-based deliverables in direct support of the company’s exciting initiatives.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Apply fundamental engineering concepts to solve complex, novel, and unfamiliar problems
  • Design sensor interfaces and signal conditioning solutions to meet customer requirements
  • Take initiative and innovate to generate technical value and achieve business goals
  • Influence positive outcomes through clear and concise communication of complex information to peers, managers, and customers
  • Conduct PCB design activities such as schematic & layout capture software (Altium preferred), fabrication, assembly, and lead associated design reviews with multi-disciplinary engineering teams
  • Execution of electrical and EMC testing based upon various standard specifications (SAE, ISO, CE, UL, etc.), analyze data and prepare test reports
  • Continuously improve the design process by ensuring best practices and tools are evaluated and used
  • Develop creative solutions to problems through collaboration with engineers from other disciplines
  • Identify and mitigate technical design risks
  • Overcome obstacles and tenaciously drive to meet deadlines
  • Communication and documentation of design elements for internal and external customers

Qualifications & Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering (completed prior to start date) with 5+ years of industry experience
  • Experience with sensor interface systems, optical interfaces and equipment, communications equipment and systems, controls equipment, power conditioning and electrical distribution systems is desired
  • Proficiency in PCB and layout design (Altium preferred) including layer stack up, signal integrity analysis, power distribution, and designing for EMC robustness
  • Familiarity with traditional manufacturing methods and processes for electronic and electromechanical assemblies.
  • Experience with automotive EMC design, test methods, and troubleshooting per CISPR25, ISO, and SAE standards
  • Experience with the design, analysis, and simulation of analog and digital circuits
  • Knowledge on the hardware design and engineering process, including board bring-up – prototyping, fabrication, assembly, and soldering
  • Proficiency with C/C++, MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW for automation and data processing is preferred
  • Experience with embedded software – writing software code, defining system architecture and troubleshooting is a plus
  • Familiarity with hardware protocols including CAN, USB, UART, I2C, and SPI
  • Possess excellent troubleshooting skills to efficiently identify and resolve design and production issues during all phases of product development.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, team environment with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks.

Embedded Software Engineer

Position Summary

KEA Technologies, Inc. is currently looking for a talented individual for the position of Embedded Software Engineer. If you are a qualified applicant that is highly motivated, enthusiastic about innovative R&D design and are looking to become an integral member of a multi-disciplinary team including engineering professionals and subject-matter experts, KEA can provide an exciting opportunity. In this role, you will be responsible for

  • Working on embedded platform software in a Linux-based environment.
  • Writing event-driven and asynchronous applications primarily in C and C++.
  • Writing software that communicates with and controls other devices over interfaces including CAN, UART, I2C, SPI and others.

Designing, developing and continuously enhancing our customized Linux operating systems. You’ll have ownership over areas such as build toolchain, kernels, root filesystem, bootloader, device drivers, and BSP for a wide variety of hardware boards.

You will have ownership and responsibility for overseeing key aspects of prototype/product development providing technical support and monitoring schedule status. You will assume responsibility for results-based deliverables in direct support of the company’s exciting initiatives.

Qualifications & Requirements

Skill/Job Requirements:

  • BS/MS in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Expert level C/C++ coding (preferably in a Linux environment)
  • Experience with source control (Git, SVN or something similar).
  • Team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good organizational and writing abilities are desirable.
  • COVID-19 vaccination and booster (if/when eligible)

Nice to have:

  • Experience with python.
  • Experience with Microcontrollers.
  • Experience with Yocto Project.
  • Experience with developing or customizing board support packages (BSP).
  • Experience with embedded systems and Linux kernel/driver development is a plus.
  • Familiarity with the Linux operating system internals, kernel modules are a plus.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as CAN, UART, I2C, SPI.
